This has been discussed before withissue 1675. Changing the spans to divs breaks the way the Accordion works in Firefox.

This issue should not have been closed. Do not force people to use alternative solutions to get around this seemingly sloppy issue. The excuse that the superfluous div tag is needed inside the span tag is a cop-out and an invalid solution. If the developers are having problems developing a proper solution, post the issues and lets work them out till we get an optimal solution. Don't just say - "well this breaks if we do it this way in Firefox".

I posted a pretty much identical comment to yours on the codeplex site which hosts the toolkit project. As a result and because a few other people have made a similar complaint hey have now re-opened the issue and added it as an official issue which will hopefully be fixed with the next alpha release.
