very weird problem

I have installed lastest ajax and also toolkit too. I created master page and default aspx page, then I put my scriptmanager inside the master page and update panel inside the default page, I didn't choose ajax enable website because I have a hard time to place my existing web.config files, assemblies, connection strings to right place of the enable ajax's web.config file. Maybe I should though, with this error.

I get errors sometimes with all the controls in update panel, is not recognized my html tag, even though my controls are declared, it says it is not, But it builds application suscessfully. I made sure I put this

to my page and also in web.config file under config section also assemblies too. Thing is I think every time I backup my website to my documents, for some reason a while later this happens. I even reset my iis to clear my temp folder of asp.net too. Still. Why this is happening ?

You'll also need an reference to the following assemblies:

- AjaxToolKit.dll
- System.Web.Extensions.dll

You can do this using right click on your project, "Add Reference" and point to this DLL's

On bin folder, I have got these ar, cs, de, es, fr,he,hi,it,ja,ko,nl,pt, ru,tr-TR,zh-CHS, zh_CHT all
thas AjaxControlToolkit.resources.dll in it.
Then AJaxCotrolKit.dll under neat AjaxControlKit.dll.refresh and AjaxControlKit.pdb

Microsoft.Web.UI.WebControls.dll with Microsoft.Web.UI.WebControls.dll.refresh

I have these dll on my bin now, and still problem

I had these dll on program file but not pointing to my project. I am right clicking my project and add references, choosing these dll and adding but it is not showing under my bin folder for some reason, can someone tell me steps to how to add these dlls to my projects.

Is anybody didn't have this problem? I go crazy here with this..

this was nothing to do with ajax, it was copy paste problem..

Viewstate - Controls that are there but not there at the same time

Hi All,

I wonder if someone can help. I have just started using ajax and am converting an established application. It uses dynamically created controls to enter parameters for crystal. I have now got a panel that l holds the crystal component, and with testing of directly fed parameters this works fine. As soon as i try and use my dynamic componenets it can't see them. I have gathered this has got something to do with viewstates. I have seen several examples of how to fix this but they are all in C# and the application is in vb. Can anybody step me through this please as i sem to be missing something.

VS 2008 RTM AJAX Toolkit 3.5 Autocomplete extender has issues

I just installed VS 2008 RTM and the autocomplete has issues. I created a new page added the scriptmanager and set it up to enablepagemethod so that I could use my local database to supply the autocomplete strings.

I dropped a textbox on the page then I dropped the extender onto the control. It appeared in the properties list of the textbox as expected. I changed some properties and set the ServiceMethod.

The extender did not alter the source. All the property changes were lost. I tied this several times and always the same result. The properties could be changed in the properties window but these are not updated in the source aspx page. So when you switch to source view from design the changes are simply lost.

For those who would like to implement a pagemethod rather than a webservice call, I found two good sources:

The above works as it should. The problem is the properties are not updating. This causes VS 2008 RTM to error with a "souce code not available" error which certainly doesn't point to the real problem. You thought you set the properties and really they were not set.

Hi Larry,

Your problem is such weird issue. Can you modify or add extra code to your page? We suggest that you should check which version of AJAX Control Toolkit that you are using now. Please upgrade it to V11119. Also, you should check the .NET Framework version and AJAX Control Toolkit version. So do the web.config settings. AJAX Control Toolkit are divided into two versions for supporting .NET Framework 2.0 and 3.5.

During the upgrade to RTM from Beta 2, I uninstalled everything Beta2. I uninstalled all projects from my machine, and deleted all traces of my development environment. I installed the RTM, downloaded the latest versions of AJAX toolkit. I created an new project.

I did verify that all my versions are for 3.5. My work around is to just not use the properties window for the control. However this control has other isses that are show-stoppers. I have commented on them in this forum under the "onClientItemSelected" event that will not fire. I can make it autocomplete but I can't get an event fired so it isn't much use to me. Thus for the moment I can't use it in production.

Only for AJAX Contol Toolkit's Controls or all the Controls?

If the former, please do this and have a test.

We suggest that you should download a sample fromhttp://www.asp.net/learn/ajax-videos/ and have a test. Please make sure Javascript is not forbidded in you machine.

Watermark text

I created a practice atlas website, put a textbox on the form, dragged the script manager and watermark control to the form. Went to the properties of the textbox and the watermark referance was there with a plus sign. Clicked on the + sign and nothing was there, I could not insert any text. What am I missing? Thank you.I got it working locally but receive this error on the remote server.

Unknown server tag 'atlas:ScriptManager'.
It seems like maybe the remote server's not seeing the Atlas DLL as registered? Maybe check that there's an @.Register for it or a corresponding entry for it in the web.config on that machine.

Way to hold state of collapsible panel?

I've created a website application with a MasterPage that has an Accordion side-menu contained in a Collapsible Panel. It works fine, however, I need a way to hold the state of these controls when the user is redirected to another page.

So, if they have the side-menu collapsed and click a link to another page, when the new page is displayed, the side-menu should remained collapsed...is there anyway to do this? Basically, I just need to set some Session Variables to hold the state whenever the user manipulates the side-menu...

You could probably do it in viewstate? I don't have time to test it out right now, I'll try to get back to this later if nobody else has answered. Basically after you open a collapsible panel you could set something like viewstate("thiscontrolisCollapsed")=false and then on the page load you could do something like

just off the top of my head. Sorry I can't be more technical with it, I'm getting ready to walk out the door and thought I'd throw this out as a suggestion.

Thanks, but the problem is actually being able to hold the state of the collapsible panel on the server side. All the collapsing and expanding is handled in client side javascript, and I'd need to somehow run some server-side code to hold the state after the client script has expanded or collapsed the panel.

I was thinking I need to fire off a client side call-back, but I can't figure out how to trigger it when the collapsible panel is expanded or collapsed...

Ok, I've figured out how to accomplish this. I already had an image that was the ExpandControlID and CollapseControlID, that the user clicks on to expand or collapse the panel. So I simply added an onclick attribute to that image which calls a javascript that initiates a client side call-back, where I pass the Collapsed status of the panel to the server and set a session variable. My code is below:

WCF ASP.NET Service not working - what am I missing

Hello. This is a simple question, so please take a look.

I am using Orcas Beta2 and I created a new Solution. In there added a Web Application Project. In the project I created an Ajax enabled WCF service. When I call the service from JavaScript I get this error: Service1 is not defined. What am I missing? Here is the very simple code. Thanks!

Yep, I'm guessing this is what you're missing. Afraid you can't get away with just .html as the client. You'll have to create an .aspx page.

I thought that the default out of the box experience should be easy. It seems that it is not and one needs to fully understand te WCF model before getting anything to work. And WCF is a big monster to learn just to expose a simple REST service.

Sorry for cutting and pasting only part of the aspx file. i updated the post and included all of the aspx file. Yes, i am using an aspx file and not an html file. Otherwise it would not compile. I tried adding the Factory to the svc file but it did not work for other reasons. It would be nice if someone, (hello Microsoft! :)) would post steps to create a simple service and how to consume it via an aspx page. This was dead simple in asmx, but wcf has just too many knobs and it seems that detailed knowledge of wcf is required to get this to work.

WCF Hosted in IIS over SSL

I've got a Windows Communication Foundation service that I'm hosting in IIS 6 and running over SSL using a certificate that I created using selfssl. I'm able to view the .svc with no errors in IE but when I tried to add a service reference to it in Visual Studio I got the following error:

The reason I posted it here is because I did a search for wcf and this was about the only forum that had any posts for wcf. Anyway, it was a problem with my certificate. I created a certificate with selfssl but I didn't name it "localhost" so the certificate didn't match the site address. Once I made a new certificate with cn=localhost I was able to add the service reference in visual studio.

Web Service - Invoking on remote server and scheduling

Hello,

I created a web service on my local computer. This web service has one Web Method, which I can [INVOKE] the method by pressing a button on my local computer ie->http://localhost:2234/mywebservice.asmx. However, when I upload this webservice to my remote account at easycgi, the [INVOKE] is missing.

My question is why is the [INVOKE] button missing?
Do I need to create a proxy using WSDL in order to run my web method?
Also, does anyone know how to schedule a web service to run at specified times, if you do not have access to the host server?

I am going to answer my own question here. I was able to set up a proxy by creating a web reference to my webservice in vs2005. Using the proxy I called my web service method. I am still not sure why the [INVOKE] button was missing on my .asmx file when I uploaded, but no matter.

My web host provider, easycgi, provides a script scheduler. The script can be an .aspx that runs code on the page load event. By calling my web service method on page load event I am able to call my web service at specified times.

A security feature of WebServices is that the invoke option will only appear on local webservices. There is a security setting you can add to the web.config to allow this remotely but i can't remember what is was. It was a VS2003 feature as i recall and it's likely been removed since .net 2.0

I could probably dig it out though if you need, let me know. It can be handy to check a remote service via the browser
